The 'intelligent' Post-It note

Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed the "intelligent stickies" that does more than a Post-it note could ever hope to do. Post-it notes still comes in handy for quick reminders or references. Many have tried to replace it with a variety of inventions but nothing became a success. Scientists at the "Ambient Intelligence Group" at MIT have come up with a novel way that takes Post-it notes to a totally different level. It combines artificial intelligence (AI), RFID tags and ink recognition technologies.

The scientists call them a Quickie, which is a simple Post-it note using a special digital pen to capture the written data digitally and transfer it to the computer for later processing. The data is converted into readable text via handwriting-recognition algorithms.

Once the notes are saved in the computer, they can be searched at any time using keywords or names. Artificial intelligence techniques are then used to analyze the message content and assign them to various categories like messaging to the recipient or marking it in the calendar, etc. The video shows some of their uses.

The inventors of this Quickie system said in their research paper: "The system uses its understanding of the user's intentions, content, and the context of the notes to provide the user with reminders, alerts, messages, and just-in-time information."

The Quickie also carries an RFID tag so that it can be easily located in the house or the office.
